Autonomo work permit list

Autonomo work permit list

Not all the items on this list will be required in every case, thank goodness, but it gives you an idea.

1. Title or degree. If you wish to practice medicine or architecture, you must present your titles and certificates from EU institutions. If your titles are from outside the EU, they will have to undergo a lengthy process to be validated.

2. I.A.E. Impuesto de Actividades Economicas. This is your business licence, formerly called the licencia fiscal. Now it is called the Tax on Economic Activities. It can go from as little as €150 for a small self-employed operation up to €600 or even more for an active professional. It also varies according to the type of work. You pay this at your town hall before you get your work permit.

3. Your registration with the Spanish Social Security as a trabajador autonomo, a self-employed worker. You register at your nearest Social Security office, and you pay a minimum €205,54 every month. It is illegal to work in Spain without paying into the Spanish Social Security system.

4. A licencia de apertura, an opening licence, will be necessary if you have business premises, such as a shop or a workshop installation. This municipal licence comes from your town ball and authorises you to operate your particular business in that particular location.

5. A written explanation of the activity you will carry out. This is called a memoria de actividades, and it describes just what work you will do as a self-employed person.

6. Passport and photocopy.

7. Four photos.

8. Title deed and lease contract for business premises and photocopy.

9. Incorporation charter, If a company has been formed.

10. Filled-in form (soltcitüd) requesting permit

11. Any other permits relating to your special profession. If you are going to work as a cook in a restaurant, you will need a food handler’s certificate, for example.
